Get to know Jiugeng

Jiugeng is a Scientific Assistant within the EM group, holding an MSc in Computer Science from ETH Zürich and a BSc in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science from the University of Edinburgh. He is the lead developer of the project’s discourse analysis toolkit, where his work focuses on bridging the gap between applied machine learning and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).

Jiugeng’s research explores social computing and the real-time modelling of 'Theory of Mind' (ToM) within multi-party environments. Rather than viewing AI as a passive transcriber, he is interested in how systems can decode the underlying social dynamics, intents, and semantics of a conversation to support human decision-making. By visualising these complex interaction flows, he aims to create collaborative tools that empower mediators and participants to navigate high-stakes negotiations with greater clarity and insight.
